It turns out that my Dirt Devil Featherlite (TM) vacuum cleaner, circa 2001, is particular about its filter. I'm now getting the correct one, but I now have 2 unopened ones that I cannot use and cannot return.
But since I don't want to use it as a planter, I thought I'd give it a try-
First one looks approximately like this and the packaging says it fits ( the following machines )
Second one doesn't get a picture at Dirt Devil where I bought it (clever bastards) but has part number 3860057000, which is a squat cylindrical filter that fits ( the following )

Just assume I spent a great deal of time ranting about the jerks who design the machine with the same name but may take one of 3 very different filters.
