Matt noticed a bunny in my raised herb bed last evening. Not cool, bunny! So I poked her off (from far away, gently, with the soft end of the rake) and she scampered a bit away, but not far. Huh. So I go look-- hol---y--- crrrap! It's a mama bunny. She had made a warren for her babies whose eyes were still closed!
... well, crap. This means that 1. the barrels were not safe from bunnies and 2. my herbs are donated to bunnies for the rest of the season. No way no how am I evicting this little family.

the babies
You can't see them very well--- they're nestled in with the rosemary and thyme, no kidding.
ETA: After last night's excitement, looks like they found a new warren. I hope they're OK.

She's back and very skittish now. I went out with some compost, so gave her a handfull of strawberry tops for when she goes back. Maybe the babies were under the fuzz the whole time? I hope. We were convinced she was gone, so I put all jungle of other planters back- maybe she was spooked when her micro-environment changed all of a sudden. We'll see.

If this continues, I'll be tempted to get the Must Be Bunnies icon, which feels a bit late in the game, but rather apropos.

ETA (again)-- maybe just back for an herby snack, as no really- no babies. I guess I'll have to wait until the family smorgasbord outing happens in the oregano.
