Lesson learned in the garden today: Shake everything a lot before bringing produce in. The lettuce got so excessively leggy that I decided it was time they'd had their run. I don't think they bolted, but still. I had to grab some tomato plants before they stopped selling them. I acquired Black Crim and some form of Heirloom at Wilson. Also some cinnamon basil (and it really smells of cinnamon- bet it'd go well with strawberries) and some bush beans. Beans are now where the lettuce was. Tomatoes go in their own bucket.

The bee balm, aka alien flowers, have started to do their thing. I had no idea how the flowers transformed. Well, now I know. The leaves themselves are part of the bloom. It contiues to bully the hell out of its neighbor, the chocolate mint. I trimmed back several stalks of balm to give both mint and basil some breathing room. Oy.

The onion is really getting its bloom on- I cut away what was probably pretty wretched edible leaves- They got too big for eatin'. It was mostly an experiment. I don't really do much with green onion in cooking. I'll pull it up as soon as its had its fun with the flowering part. In about a month, I'll be planting garlic!

MyFolia

If you want a nifty way to track all your individual plants, have a look at MyFolia. I've set up my gardens (http://myfolia.com/gardener/KarenInWichita) there, and it makes for an easy way to look up when things need harvested and such.

They do add up... I haven't even entered all the miscellaneous herbs on the porch, which is cheating: I'm waiting to see which ones survive.

I had to watch out I wasn't spending more time planning the garden(s) and journaling them than I was working on them. I have some more current pictures of the squares in the camera right now, so I need to update mine too (especially since the oldest square is about to get harvested pretty much back down to a box of dirt).
