People - again- keep asking me how are things, what's going on and all- Stuff? Not much? And yet- lots.
Snippet 1: I've been hungry pretty much all day. I ate the same amount of yogurt/granola (etc) for breakfast and by 10:30 I was gnawingly hungry. This might have something to do with my trend this week to ride my bicycle to Alewife and then once in and gym-ward, do machine-y weighty things. Oh..., hi, metabolism. Did you just wake up or something?! Feh.
2: After several months of ignoring, I started playing Guitar Hero again. I'd been toodling around at beginner and couldn't quite bring myself to the scary of middling/medium. Silly. Everyone is awful when one changes levels- I don't get a free pass on that. It was hugely gratifying to see major improvement from first song to last. There will be more music-based game playing in the coming weeks. See, there's this version of GH that features this band that
quiet_elegance sort of likes. You know, Metallica? Additionally, since
badlittlemonkey is now firmly in my acquaintance, there's a mandate to compare/contrast GH with Rock Band. It was inevitable, given The Beatles version comes out on 09.09.09. But still. No harm in getting used to the format beforehand. :-)
3. Worky-work stuff. Hm. I've been flailing away to get a project completed and it has meant working with the company that designed our web site. I am honestly not sure I could properly explain what has happened over the past few months that has caused me to go into frothing rages just about every time I have to interact with the Dev boys. (The one Dev girl has been quite nice for the most part, but she isn't our go-to anymore). Simply: if it could go wrong it did. I've never been fond at being other people's task master. Do your job and do it when you say. I didn't realize how spoiled I am with my co-workers who rarely disappoint me on this sort of thing. For that matter, at work I'm usually the slacker. If anyone truly cares, I'll be happy to go off on a hopefully humorous tear about my trials with said project. The one thing that has evolved out of my frustrations is a general agreement to have People Not Me do the heavy lifting on web site maintenance. I'm really OK with that if only I can just get used to the notion of help. Besides, R. is much more detail-oriented to such things. She can have it.
On the more cheerful side: within the past two weeks, I have finally completed the never-ending project, which was not so much never-ending as 4 months of intermittant labor. The collossal mission family project my intern took over from me is essentially done and just requires a bit of fine-tuning before I publish the guide.
I've been helping our librarian sort through missionary pamphlets that I had originally gone through 7 years ago when I knew almost nothing and had none of the current staff to help me make executive decisions. As they keep reminding me: the whole weeding/organization process is something that's refined in stages. At least I made it somewhat less scary back then. This round will be 100 x better. And I don't have to actually do the cataloging this time. That's really the best bit.
Last year, the library committee and my boss thought it might be time for me to take the records management seminar I've been offering and adapt it to online. I even took a class with lifecollage last fall for learing how to teach online classes. Sadly, that experience didn't give me what I needed, but hey- it was a thought. I've done some intial tries at creating videos, but I stubbornly decided I could do so without a script. Hah. Well, at least I can admit now I was entirely wrong. So today in between tech/web nightmarees, I wrote the rough drafts for the first two videos. Oh, right! This'll be awesome. I don't have to keep pausing to figure out what I mean to say and instead I can focus on my tempo and projection. Dur. I get it eventually.
4. New quests- So, when I was in Cancun with
quiet_elegance , we thought about where we might want to go next now that he has a valid passport again. Hm. Somewhere in Europe. Somewhere gorgeous. Perhaps somewhere that requires a new language to be learned. Hm. Italy! So, I bought a copy of Rosetta Stone for Christmas, but until yesterday hand't installed it onto a machine. That done, I've now gotten as far as the second lesson. I call it a win thus far! Major emphasis on intuative learning- visual-vocal associations and... yeah. So far, I entirely recommend. Why the blazes couldn't learning German be this fun?!
5. Old quests- There was just a flurry of crafting done over the past week. I may continue with that. This weekend will be spent traveling as much as possible on 2 wheels. (or 8 if they're skates)- I have a picnic, a concert, and a movie to look forward to. Oh, and the socializing that goes with all three.
Maybe I should update more often.

Italophile here. Been a number of times. If you haven't been there before I would love to tell you about some of our favorite places. (Even if you have been there before I'm happy to tell you about some of our favorite places...)
And good info on Rosetta Stone, too. I'd been thinking of getting it for Italian (given that I go to Italy as often as I can manage and still speak only tourist Italian. But I don't have a sound card in my computer and this needs to be remedied before I can use it for aural learning...) Nice to know that it's really good and works!
Very cool
