In the raging discussion: kids in social spaces that seemed to have been sparked sometime yesterday, D! made reference to the Five Geek Social Fallicies.
Everyone who has witnessed or participated in some or all of these fallicies at some point in your life, raise your hand.... OK, the rest of you are still in deluding yourselves ;) Joking aside, I freely admit to my own participation in this and have felt the negative effects a hell of a lot. However, this is the first time I've seen them spelled out and I thank the author most thoroughly for having the inclination and wherewithall to share it with the rest of us.
As for the kid discussion, I've been fascinated by the sociological study that it is and I expect a lot of people will find their trees shaken on both sides of the chatter.

Will avoid jumping in on the threads themselves, as I don't know the posters, but... all of my parties here are kid-friendly these days, because all of Elayna's babysitters have moved out of town. *wry smile* If someone has a child-free event, they get just me and not Adam - he's the introvert of the couple - but they certainly don't get me bitching about how my kid should be there when it's a non-kid event. *shrug*

Holy fuck. That should be pickled for posterity's sake, put in a mason jar and labeled "shit storm." The previously indicated discussions I tagged for 'song are so polite! (or were a few hours ago). Huh. I eventually gave up in the lower third as a lost cause and the nits' nits had been picked to death.
