First- Here's my pumpkin this year. I totally cribbed from Neil's site today, as I was not coming up with any ideas of my own. But hey- I can free-style draw, which gives me some cred.
death pumpkin

And this year I finally did zombie librarian.
zombie librarian          still zombie librarian
My companion is still at the party so couldn't give her consent to the photo posting, and generally she's against such a notion. Ok. the fake blood itches after it's dried. Time to rinse and then enjoy the extra hour of sleep!
Oh- there was rock band at the 2nd party of the night, by the way. They did  Still Alive and  Skull Crusher Mountain before breaking into The Beatles. :)

I have reconsidered with the assistance of Miss [livejournal.com profile] plumtreeblossom 's discussion in her blog. No zombie march on Easter for me. I'm not Christian, but I'd like to not put such a bad name to zombie activities that they're not welcome anymore. I really hope they reschedule. I have an awesome fake book and everything (that looks like it's sprouting from my head). Oh, and even [livejournal.com profile] quiet_elegance  agrees it's a dickish maneuver, and he's often my tempering voice of reason. And if he of the not remotely PC thinks it's a bad plan, it really is.

(eta) The "day" started with a phone call at 3-something from Maine- word that K's dad finally died (I hate euphemisms) quietly in his sleep after days of fading out. As K says: it was the preferred outcome for an inevitability.
With that in mind, it seemed extra important to suck the marrow out of the day. And I think we did a good job at it-->

So: garden, as earlier noted, starting to wake up.
Then the DMH denizens + Robin went to Symphony Hall to hear (and feel) Kodo. This was essentially a section of their opening number. The person who shot that video would have been right above us compared to where we sat- in the 3rd row. So, the guy(s) wielding the baseball bats on the biggest drums in the set- wow. Raaaaawr! Oh- finally- this one- The shadows on the wall of them drumming were reminicent of Fantasia.
One must have sushi after that- we went to Douzo for fish and sake. I've not had better fish, I don't think. Or better sake. And Finale for the finale. I'm amazed I'm still awake.

on an entirely other note, a living-dead affirming note: Zombie March 2009! On Easter! I'm so-so there. I didn't get a chance to wear living dead librarian at Halloween, so... yes. I just hope it doesn't rain.

My first Paul & Storm, Jonathan Coulton show = really super-fantastic-awesome. I loved both sets. Nerd rock rocks. Soooo many familiar faces in the audience, including one woman I have never spoken to, but have seen on the red line. Thank the gods Robin had a stash of already downloaded JoCo at work, so I listened to 3/4 of his set this morning and afternoon. Also, he Rick-Rolled us. Bastard! But in a good way.

I need to do this.  I did zombie for the last Booty Vortex Halloween show, but this--- this! Must do. I asked how she did the book, and she said in comments, if anyone was wondering. I was willing to sacrifice an old copy - they sell used for a buck on ABE, after all. Useful recycling, but her way is lighter *nod*

I am not very subtle on many levels. This early morning's dream featured a spreading zombie problem. They weren't fast moving, but they were dedicated to rooting out any living humans. I had to keep moving to keep from getting 'et. Also, I had missed the first week of school thus far, it was a school day somewhere in the second week and I was having a really hard time getting to campus. It felt like high school again. People kept arguing that I might as well just skip til Monday- (dreamtime being set at Thursday, I believe) so really wouldn't it just be easier that way? My mom was not writing me a note, I don't think- so arriving without even that much was going to cause a lot of trouble, but I really was determined. All the while: zombies.

Little wonder I'm feeling very twitchy and hoping to make more progress on teaching for Saturday. I have 8 students now, 4 of whom have written in response to my request to tell me who they are and what they want from this class. If I don't hear from at least 3 more by the end of the afternoon, I will likely call them.

What is getting me about this class is that much of it really does depend on the individual's experience using primary sources. "How do you find primary sources?" is a question. Well, that depends. What kind are you looking for? Where have you looked? How have you asked? Whom have you asked? How willing were you to go to the place to look at stuff? ... deep breath.... I'm SO nervous. I expect I'll never offer this class in this format again. The stress of knowing they're paying over 100 bucks to hear me talk. God. Definitely feeling like what I've got to say isn't worth that.  But, too late now. I have emailed all of them to indicate that I'm emphasizing collaboration. There's really so much to choose from-- :P more deep breaths. This, too, shall pass. I know I'll be OK. I can think pretty well on my feet and I still have 4 work days to overcompensate prepare.

(Found for my by Wil Wheaton) Re: Your Brains. In French.
I really wish I knew how to pronounce French, as learning the words is going to require a lot of work (teeheheheheheheheeee)

Try... 4? Zombies!

I think the zombies stole my Tpass. I hate them. And it's smack-dab in the middle of the month, so rebuying the monthly pass is going to be less than ideal. I guess I'll have to find excuses to not take the train so much for the rest of the month. ponder ponder... does anyone else suddenly have a craving for freshly killed brains?

Here's the one pic I've picked up just from trolling Flickr for Boston  and  Zombie. Bey and I are SO PRETTY!!!
Hopefully more will turn up eventually.

First off, I didn't bring a camera with me yesterday. I figured that someone I'd know would hook me up. As it turns out, I think for every zombie there as also a camera.

[personal profile] gilana and I arrived at the Stacks, were treated to gelatinized brains, and wet washcloths (for which to clean up- yay. Dried chocolate blood is itchy!) Today I'm feeling pretty frickin' tired but not bad for someone who spent the better part of yesterday evening undead.

By the way, if you want to see something surreal... Bollywood meets Michael Jackson and it's wearing red PVC. Link found via Halfway to Human, the wacky folks who brought you this march. shamble. whatever.

Zombies!!

mizarchivist: (Evil Muppets)
Ok. [personal profile] plumtreeblossom pointed me to the zombie march on Saturday (12th). I heard about this last year. I must do this! Mandate, imperative, whatever. Is anyone else likely to participate? It starts at 6:30 in Davis and shuffles to Harvard.
There's a plan to hit Goodwill or Salvation Army tonight to see about getting an ensemble that can be zombified. I'm hoping for a prom dress (will be worn w/ Combat Boots, methinks).
More important that that is the need for fake blood, pastifying and darkifying makeup that one normally has on stage. Since it's not Halloween, I can't imagine where they'd sell that in stores. Pointers towards that would be helpful. I'm not trusting online delivery to be fast enough at this stage of things.
I'm also figuring I'll head back to Davis when it's over to retrieve the vehicle, then scamper to the evening's party.
