I'm looking for some "U" shaped pins, viz:

These are sold at Firemountain Gems for a little over 8 bucks. S&H is also 8+ bucks. I object. I also don't need 1000 pins. So, I'm hoping one of you crafty types have seen this object locally. I've already asked Windsor Button, and was considering Pearl or Jo Anne's. Anyway, any direction on this would be appreciated.

Picasa's "help" doesn't seem to cover the what if screensaver doesn't work/bug fixin' sort of stuff, so I'm going to talk about that behind a cut.. Ahem...

I'm going out with my [profile] quiet_elegance for dinner tonight and the more I think about it, the more I am wanting a good salad. You know. One that includes real greens and nifty non-lettuce ingredients. Ideally, I'd like to be within range of Diesel, so Davis Sq/Porter-ish was what I was thinking.
Thoughts?

I was talking about sushi over the weekend with a new acquaintance and she said that there's a place at Porter Exchange that is owned by or at least buys their fish from- the little grocery store in the Exchange, that the fish is much better and less expensive than Bluefin. Does anyone know what it's called?

as noted here, the house cleaning by professionals was a complete success. For $160 dollars, 2 workers came in for 5 (original estimate was for 6) hours for this first/stand alone and huge cleaning. A monthly cleaning will cost us $80, every two weeks: $70. To riff on [livejournal.com profile] byroade's observation: sanity insurance, yo.

Additionally, these folks were found by the HOVIR household at Pride, so by we supporting the company, we are supporting ourselves.

Using a number 2 pencil, please read the questions carefully and answer only the question being asked. Write legibly and read the entire exam before beginning.

1. For those who have to pay for their own dental insurance because their employer doesn't cover such frivolity, what company/plan do you use?

2. Is there a company you would warn me against?

3. Does anyone have any specific exposure to Dentalplans.com? (Exam grader found this site on Google and is leaning towards GE Wellness -Dental Only)

Automatic zero credit will be awarded for those who fail to follow directions. You may begin.

Not of grumpy ghosts, but of all the dust rhinos. Actually, the house didn't have a ghost problem before, just so you know. If anyone needs some Portuguese/Hispanic? girls to come in and make your house not suck with the dustfulness, I entirely and whole-heartedly recommend S & N Cleaning Services They made everything- and I mean everything- shiny. They cleaned off the outside of our vacuum. And the tops of the door frames. And made our beds.
I've also watched about 4 episodes of Buffy (3rd season, 1st disk) today. And I can tell my speech patterns have shifted again with it. Yay! Clean house!!

It's now 19 days til my natal day, and some people sometimes buy me presents. I was trying to see if I already had a wishlist together, but I think the last time I did this was 2 years ago- dude.
This is not an obligatory thing, rather a reference, says the very self-depricating, --I swear I'm not a spoiled only child brat and really don't tease me, OK? Really. I'm neurotic. -- girl.

Ok. Will that satisfy? Most is pretty universal/timeless 'cept for some of them specific middle bits.

So, one of my totally awesome presents this year was a set of Corcoran combat boots! I knew I'd not be able to wear them all day. I think I made it to 9:30. But still: Boooots!

Secondly- I've been requested to add to my uncle's girlfriend's daughter's graduation scrap book. I don't actually know her beyond meeting her twice, so I'm taking my mom's route of giving her some useful advice. I'm open to suggestion as to what to say, so feel free to comment.

In the raging discussion: kids in social spaces that seemed to have been sparked sometime yesterday, D! made reference to the Five Geek Social Fallicies.
Everyone who has witnessed or participated in some or all of these fallicies at some point in your life, raise your hand.... OK, the rest of you are still in deluding yourselves ;) Joking aside, I freely admit to my own participation in this and have felt the negative effects a hell of a lot. However, this is the first time I've seen them spelled out and I thank the author most thoroughly for having the inclination and wherewithall to share it with the rest of us.
As for the kid discussion, I've been fascinated by the sociological study that it is and I expect a lot of people will find their trees shaken on both sides of the chatter.

My poor friends and family have heard me bitching about my lack of useful shoes over the past few weeks. Well, yesterday I realized allofasudden that I have a professional gig to attend in the evening shoe roll-call ) No go when I'm a representing alum and the youngest to boot (hah, boot!) Therefore, I feel it is my obligation to not look like one of the students, but a hip young professional who is worthy of emulation by the yet ungraduated masses. To quote Stewie Griffin: "You will bow to me!!"
So, I was a clever bunny and remembered there's a shoe store in downtown Lexington that always has the best displays. Went in and bought the first pair I tried on after only one size adjustment. I love them. I want 2 more pair, one in black and one in brown.

Ok, gakked from [livejournal.com profile] water_childe : Relationship hints, particularly for the poly-minded, although quite frankly, some good advice for anyone: http://www.xeromag.com/fvpoly.html. It has been pointed out to me several times today that there's some sort of relationship shit-storm/vortex in our midst and sometimes it's good to be reminded of the basics... or not so basics? I'm grateful I'm not one of the afflicted, but I do get to watch many good friends suffer way lots. Good will to ye all

I've taken to rollerblading over bicycling as it (as longa as I don't fall down) is hella easier on my body/wrists. And it's a more intense workout, so bonus. I also determined a safer way to get to the bike trail, which often determined my not going as it requires either hauling them up to the path or traversing a hill. However, if I tromp through the back yard, no hill. Woot!
Last night I went after the sun went down. I had a reflective vest on but not a light. I'm very keen to go again, but next time with illumination. I thought if I didn't care to see where I was going, but wanted to be seen, I should get the bendy glow sticks you can turn into bracelets/anklets. Snarf!

When I got back, I figured out how to fix the iPod!! Thanks to Solpolistnation for giving me the place to start. I was under the misapprehension that the solution was in itunes/pod, not windows. But it was. One apparently runs the "chkdsk" via the Run function found in MS start menus. Happily, the cryptic how to in the help index was enough to get me to fix it. Hopefully I can do the same for quiet_elegance's, too. Double Woot!! And I did it all by mine self < /5 yr. old self>

My current issue with my iPod is as follows. It seems to think that its temp file is corrupted and that I should run "chkdsk" utility to fix this. Well, I've yet to find a means to run *any* utility via iTunes/iPod. I did just download the latest software for iPod in the hopes that would help. It also allows one to wipe it clean to factory specs, which is my default fix (after I copy all the music I have on it- I figured the software to do that last month).
Has anyone out there run across this and fixed it without doing a clean sweep?

Wex and I were having a musical cataloging discussion and the question came up: what would be the current appropriate category for Sisters of Mercy? I would put SoM in with whatever one would call Peter Murphy, but "goth rock" just doesn't seem to work, because he predates the use of the word Goth.
I do not listen to SoM enough to have a real grasp of this. My ex listened to them all the time (iirc) and would be an ideal person to ask, but that would be ... inadviseable. (Samurai, if there's a natural way to discuss it, feel free to ask for my sake :)
If Isabelluna is out there this week and listening, I expect she'd know the answer but the rest of ya'll who are interested in such things feel free to chime in. Curious Minds want to know.

I cannot use my cell phone while visiting my parents. Better to get a prepaid one before I go. I think I'll be in that neighborhood again (well, Indiana) at Christmas... hm. I think I'll actually leave myself a note in Outlook to go off 'round Dec. 19. bangs head a bit
